King of Prussia, PA – The ramp from eastbound U.S. 30/Exton Bypass to northbound U.S. 202 is scheduled to close in East Whiteland and West Whiteland townships, Chester County, on Thursday, August 17, and Friday, August 18, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for overhead bridge construction, as part of the final phase of the U.S. 202 Section 300 improvement project, which includes the rehabilitation of two U.S. 202 bridges over Amtrak rail lines, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
During the overnight ramp closure, motorists will be detoured to the Business U.S. 30 exit, right on eastbound Business U.S. 30 and right onto the ramp to northbound U.S. 202.
Prior to the closure, from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, there will be lane restrictions on the ramp from eastbound U.S. 30/Exton Bypass to northbound U.S. 202.
Eastbound U.S. 30 motorists should expect backups and slow moving traffic when approaching the ramp to northbound U.S. 202.
Northbound U.S. 202 motorists will also encounter a right lane closure between the Boot Road and Route 401 interchanges on Thursday, August 17, and Friday, August 18, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for bridge reconstruction.
During the lane closure, northbound U.S. 202 motorists will not have access to the exit ramp to U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue). The detour will direct northbound U.S. 202 motorists to continue to the Route 401 (Conestoga Road) Interchange and turn right onto Route 401 (Conestoga Road) to reach U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue).
All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
PennDOT is rehabilitating the steel superstructures and re-decking the northbound and southbound U.S. 202 bridges over the ramp and the adjacent Amtrak rail lines as part of a $26.4 million project that also includes replacement of the deteriorated concrete on the U.S. 202 ramps to and from the U.S. 30/Exton Bypass.
Construction is underway through mid-2018 on the northbound U.S. 202 bridge and on the ramp from southbound U.S. 202 to the U.S. 30/Exton Bypass, where one-of-the-two lanes on the ramp is closed. Both the bridge and the ramp are being rebuilt a-half-at-a-time.
PennDOT is maintaining two lanes of traffic in each direction on U.S. 202 while the bridges are rehabilitated. During construction on the northbound U.S. 202 bridge, the left northbound lane shifts to the southbound bridge as an express lane while the right northbound lane remains on the northbound side through the work zone.
The southbound U.S. 202 ramp lane closure may cause backups, especially during peak travel times approaching the U.S. 30/Exton Bypass Interchange. Southbound U.S. 202 motorists traveling to the interchange should remain in the right lane, leaving the center and left lane for motorists continuing south on U.S. 202.
The ramp closure will allow PennDOT’s contractor to complete installation of shielding on the underside of the northbound U.S. 202 bridge over Amtrak and the adjacent ramp, and begin demolition of half the bridge’s concrete deck and parapets.
Allan A. Myers, Inc. of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the $26,370,555 project which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
