SELECTED ALTERNATIVE
(POSTED JANUARY 2026)
The results of the conceptual engineering evaluation and the feedback from stakeholders and the public have been reviewed, and an alternative has been selected for the Route 322 Interchange. Alternative B – Diverging Diamond Interchange or DDI (as presented in the December 2021 through February 2022 online virtual public involvement process) has been selected to proceed to Preliminary Engineering. Additional public meetings will be held in the future, as the interchange design is completed and additional details are available.
In December 2021 through February 2022, an online virtual experience was hosted to present the conceptual design work and alternatives for the Eastern Project Area (Section CER), from just west of the Reeceville Road interchange to the Quarry Road / Business U.S. 30 interchange for public input. The information presented at that time can be viewed here.
ROUTE 322 AREA OVERVIEW MAP
ROUTE 322 INTERCHANGE SELECTED ALTERNATIVE
- Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) creates two signalized crossovers to eliminate the need for left-turning vehicles to cross paths with approaching through vehicles.
- The U.S. 30 westbound off-ramp right turn at Route 322 will also be signalized.
- The PennDOT maintenance facility is maintained.
- Driveways for the PennDOT Park & Ride and the Royal Farms are impacted, which may result in access restrictions to right-in/right-out movements only.
EXISTING CONDITIONS
The existing interchange of US 30 and US 322 provides both eastbound and westbound on-ramps and off-ramps.

ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES
The significant environmental features of the section include a school and four streams. The Downingtown Area School District complex is located to the south of U.S. 30 east of the Route 322 interchange. Within the complex, the Downingtown Middle School and several athletic fields abut U.S. 30. The streams in the section are all small, unnamed tributaries. The two found west of Route 322 are tributaries of Beaver Creek, and the two east of Route 322 are tributaries of East Branch Brandywine Creek. There is one small wetland north of U.S. 30 near the western end of the section.
