SELECTED ALTERNATIVE

(POSTED JANUARY 2026)

The results of the conceptual engineering evaluation and the feedback from stakeholders and the public have been reviewed, and an alternative has been selected for the Route 340 Interchange. Alternative C – Traditional Diamond Interchange with a roundabout (as presented in the December 2021 through February 2022 online virtual public involvement process) has been selected to proceed to Preliminary Engineering. Additional public meetings will be held in the future, as the interchange design is completed and additional details are available.

In December 2021 through February 2022, an online virtual experience was hosted to present the conceptual design work and alternatives for the Eastern Project Area (Section CER), from just west of the Reeceville Road interchange to the Quarry Road / Business U.S. 30 interchange for public input. The information presented at that time can be viewed here.

ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES

Some of the significant environmental features of the section include one historic property, a golf club, seven streams, eleven wetlands, and township open space. Old Caln Meeting House, located along E Kings Hwy (Route 340), is a historic property listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The Ingleside Golf Club is also located south of U.S. 30 at the western limits of the section. Beaver Creek is the main watercourse in the section, flowing under U.S. 30 at the Route 340 interchange.  The creek has wooded riparian buffer that includes a Caln Township open space tract abutting the south side of U.S. 30 and the east side of the stream.  North of the U.S. 30 crossing, the stream is designated as supporting natural trout reproduction and is stocked. It is a cold-water stream for its entire length in the section. There are five tributaries to the creek found in the study area, two of which are in the interchange area. The interchange area also hosts most of the wetlands found in the section, with the remaining wetlands situated just to the east. The wetlands’ vegetation ranges from predominantly herbaceous cover to predominately tree cover.
