ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES

Some of the significant environmental features of the section include, a trail with adjoining property, two parks, potential historic properties, a school, five streams and eight wetlands. The Struble Trail is a multiuse recreational trail that crosses under US 30 along a former railroad between Norwood Road and the East Branch of Brandywine Creek.  County owned land associated with the trail abuts both sides of the highway. Township owned parkland is located just south of US 30 at the Norwood Road interchange (Struble Trail & Kardon Park) and north of the highway a Bell Tavern Road (Bell Tavern Park). There are numerous older buildings found throughout the corridor that may have historic significance and will require evaluation. They are mainly situated along US 30 between Norwood Road and PA 113, and along PA 113.  At the western limits of the section are Downingtown Area School District athletic fields and the Downingtown Middle School abuts US 30 just beyond the limits. The East Branch of the Brandywine Creek is the main watercourse in the section. There are two unnamed tributaries of the creek located in the vicinity of Norwood Road and two more located near the western section limits.  All but one of the eight section wetlands is found between the Struble Trail and the western section limits, with most of them abutting US 30.  The wetlands’ vegetation ranges from predominantly herbaceous cover to predominate tree cover.
